Worship Is Our Warfare

How many of you know that we are in a spiritual warfare?   Ep.6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”1 The good news is that God has given us His Word and His Spirit so that we might deal effectively with our adversary, that roaring lion who is seeking whom he may devour.

There is a reason Ps. 149:15(2) encourages us to “sing aloud on their beds”. And Ps. 8:2(3) depicts how “babes have perfected praise (strength)”. Because God “inhabits the praises of His people” (Ps.22:3)(4), His very presence drives away darkness and the enemy. We need to understand that not only is Praise and Worship adoration of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords but it has another dimension, they are weapons of our warfare.  To put it in today’s vernacular, Praise and Worship are the “atomic bombs” being sent and set off in the enemy’s camp.  Again, we are speaking of our spiritual enemy, the devil and all of his host, the enemy of our souls, the father of lies and his minions.

2Chron. 20:5-25 gives us a great picture in physical manifestation of what happens in the spirit realm when God brings confusion in the enemy’s camp through praise and worship.

2Ch 20:5 And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the LORD to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

16 ‘Tomorrow go down against them. They will surely come up by the Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the brook before the Wilderness of Jeruel.

17 ‘You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you.”

18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem bowed before the LORD, worshiping the LORD.

19 Then the Levites of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with voices loud and high.

20 So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the LORD your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.”

21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the LORD, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying: “Praise the LORD, For His mercy endures forever.”

22 Now when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.

23 For the people of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy them. And when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another.

24 So when Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked toward the multitude; and there were their dead bodies, fallen on the earth. No one had escaped.

25 When Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away their spoil, they found among them an abundance of valuables on the dead bodies, and precious jewelry, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away; and they were three days gathering the spoil because there was so much.”

Ps. 149(2) tells us * “this honor have all the saints, to execute the written judgements of our God”.  We as co-labors with the Father and our Elder brother Jesus and the Holy Spirit get to be involved in the work of the Father.  Jesus said in John 4:34 “ My meat is to do the will of the Father and to finish His work.” 1Jn. 3:8 says, “…For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, the He might destroy the works of the devil.”  Therefore, we, as sons of God, get to do the same work as Jesus or perhaps better said, that Jesus gets to do the works through us. And those works have to do with destroying the works of the devil. Praise and Worship are effectual in destroying the works of the enemy.

Here are two scriptures that express the power of Praise and Worship

Ps 5:11 But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You.

12 For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield.

Ps 27:6 And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.

(1) Eph.6: 10  Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints–

(2)Ps.149:15 Let the saints be joyful in glory; Let them sing aloud on their beds.

16  Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, And a two-edged sword in their hand,

17 To execute vengeance on the nations, And punishments on the peoples;

18 To bind their kings with chains, And their nobles with fetters of iron;

19 To execute on them the written judgment-This honor have all His saints. Praise the LORD!

(3)Ps.8:2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

Matt.21:16 And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?

(4)Ps 22:3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel
